You can make a difference. Just one animal touched, one action taken changes a life for that day or forever.
Your time, energy, and passion can improve the lives of animals in need and contribute to bettering your community, while providing you with an experience that is deeply rewarding. Our volunteer programs are a chance to live your passion, share your talents, meet like-minded people, and even potentially learn new skills. And your impact on the precious lives of animals is immeasurable.
Work closely with staff to meet all the needs of our adorable adoptable pets, including training, exercising, grooming, and other enriching activities.
Is your child interested in volunteering? If they're between 8 and 12 years of age, they can join our junior volunteer program. After the child and chaperone or guardian (18 years+) have both submitted volunteer applications and have attended a volunteer orientation, the volunteer fun begins. Junior volunteers can tag along as you help out and participate in activities such as puppy socialization, kitten socialization, grooming, and reading to companions under your supervision.
We're fortunate to have businesses whose staff enjoy coming to the shelter for service days. They help keep our shelter clean and organized while giving love to our animals along the way. Can your corporate team lend a paw? Click below to schedule a service day.
Looking for a fun activity for kids to help out with at the shelter? Schedule a party to make enrichment items for our pets, such as stuffing Kongs with kibble and peanut butter for the dogs, making lick mats for cats or frisbee licks for dogs, or making dog or cat toys. This opportunity is for kids 7 years and older and groups of up to 15 kids.
Community service and volunteering are often confused. If you've been court-ordered to do community service or need school credit, we've got you covered.
Want a group activity that helps the shelter dogs? Consider baking homemade dog treats for our canine residents. The BVSPCA has several approved recipes that are easy to make. Drop off the homemade treats during shelter hours.
Would you like to help our feline friends stay entertained? Create fun and easy cat toys to provide entertainment and enrichment for the cats and kittens while they are in our care. Click below for DIY cat toy instructions.

Without the compassion and commitment of our volunteers, we would barely be able to scratch the surface on animal welfare needs within our community. Our volunteer core totals nearly 500 volunteers who served more than 80,000 hours last year.
Open the door to endless possibilities. Together, we will create positive change within our community, help control the homeless animal population, and improve the lives of pets and their families.
